2. Lug Hole
The lug hole is the small hole in the watch case lug where the spring bar sits.
The spring bar passes through the strap and engages with the lug holes, securing the strap to the watch case.
When choosing a replacement strap, the important measurement is the lug width — the distance between the inside edges of the watch lugs.
For example, a watch with a 20mm lug width needs a 20mm strap at the case end.
Getting this measurement right is essential for a proper fit.
3. Strap Body
The strap body is the main length of material running from the watch case to the buckle.
Depending on the design, it may be made from:
- Leather
- Rubber
- Silicone
- Nylon
- Fabric
Many watch straps are tapered, meaning they are wider near the watch case and gradually become narrower towards the buckle.
This creates a cleaner, more balanced, and more tailored appearance on the wrist.
4. Stitching

5. Fixed Keeper Loop
The fixed keeper loop is the stitched loop positioned close to the buckle.

Because it is permanently attached to the strap, it stays in the same position and does not slide freely.

6. Floating Keeper Loop
The floating keeper loop is the additional loop that slides freely along the strap tail.
Once you've buckled your watch, the excess length of the strap passes through this loop.

7. Buckle
